HON. PETER B. FAVILA
was appointed Trade and Industry Secretary by H.E. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on 14
July 2005.
Secretary
Favila has over three decades of experience in the management of financial institutions
covering investment and merchant banking, treasury and trading, credit, operations, human
resources, and general management. He was instrumental in the development and
implementation of various policies in both the private and public sectors. Furthermore, he
was a direct participant in high-level negotiations involving various foreign governments
and institutions.
Prior to joining DTI, Secretary
Favila served as a presidential adviser on infrastructure finance and as economic adviser
to the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He was also chairperson of the Philippine
Stock Exchange as well as of the Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines. He is
currently a member of the Advisory Council of the Asian Bankers Association and the Board
of Advisors of the Asian Institute of Management Policy Forum.
Secretary Favila had a distinguished
management and banking career. He was senior vice president of the Metropolitan Bank and
Trust Co. before serving as president of local banks including Security Bank, Allied Bank,
and the Philippine National Bank. He also held directorships in numerous companies and
institutions, among them the ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Philippine Airlines,
Bankers Association of the Philippines, Philippine Depository & Trust Corporation,
Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority, Philippine International Trading Corporation,
Philippine Associated Smelting and Refinery Corporation, and the National Steel
Corporation.
He holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in commerce, major in banking and finance from the University of Santo Tomas. He
completed an Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School of the University of
Pennsylvania.
His professional affiliations
include memberships in, among others, the Management Association of the Philippines, the
Rotary Club of Makati South, and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, serving
as vice president and chairing the chamber's small and medium-scale enterprises
development committee. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Alay sa Kawal
Foundation.
He was born on 27 August 1948 in
Manila and is married to Alice Arnaldo Favila, with two children. |
