| PGMA brings cheers to five QC barangays |
| President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
brought cheers today to the residents of five barangays in the first
district of Quezon City through the distribution of Philhealth cards,
scholarship vouchers and certificates to operate Tindahan Natin. The President delivered the gifts through the People’s Government Mobile Action (PGMA) - Serbisyo Muna Caravan in her efforts to address the city folks’ basic social needs. The President, who arrived at 3:20 this afternoon at San Francisco Elementary School (SFES) along San Pedro Bautista Street corner Del Monte Avenue in Barangay San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City, was welcomed by Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando, Quezon City Mayor Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, and Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista. Immediately upon her arrival, she led the ceremonial distribution of 500 PhilHealth cards to selected beneficiaries. This was followed by the distribution of the 100 Scholarship Vouchers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Certificates to Operate Tindahan Natin to the barangay chairmen of Barangays Del Monte, Santa Cruz, Damayan, Mariblo and Paraiso. As she continued to move around, the President briefly stopped and looked approvingly at the ongoing medical and dental missions performed by volunteer doctors and nurses from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). Even before the President arrived, the line-agencies involved in the PGMA-Serbisyo Muna Caravan already provided various forms of assistance to the residents of the five barangays inside SFES. Built in 1934, SFES is one of the oldest schools in Quezon City. The agencies involved in the Serbisyo Muna Caravan were the PAGCOR, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), National Statistic Office (NSO), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Land Transportation Office (LTO), National Food Authority (NFA), Philippine Health Insurance Corp., and the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage System (MWSS). In an informal meeting with the barangay chairmen of Damayan, Del Monte, Mariblo, Paraiso, and Santa Cruz, the President informed them that the MMDA has already started the dredging and clearing operations of San Juan River, Dario River and drainage system near the Delos Santos Medical Center in E. Rodriguez Avenue to avoid flashflooding in their barangays especially during the rainy season. On his part, Mayor Belmonte told the President that to help ease the traffic congestion along Quezon Avenue towards Del Monte Avenue, the city government would be willing to shoulder the 50 percent expenses for the construction of a bridge that would connect Calamba Extension with Barangay Mariblo. |
